Grandma and Ice Cream Island present: Stephen Malkmus

The time has come at last for Grandma, Ice Cream Island and Ghostropolis Radio to honor that patron saint of 90s (and onwards) indie rock cool, SM –Stephen Malkmus. Listeners/readers familiar with Ghostropolis Radio/Grandma’s Favorites will likely already know that artist feature mixes (such as those already posted for John Dwyer (Thee Oh Sees), Sun Ra, and Aphex Twin) require a multitude of aliases or monikers to work around the maximum of 3 tracks per artist stipulation Mixcloud imposes. Nevertheless, Grandma takes this limitation and (at least attempts to) work it into a silver lining. Pavement is the favorite recording artist at Ghostropolis Radio so it wasn’t necessarily easy whittling down 3 tracks of any of Malkmus’ groups. Indeed, a Pavement best of would look wildly different. This mix is perhaps mellower and less acerbic than what that Pavement best of might have been, but hopefully the melodies, guitars and erudite wordplay will delight and enchant fans new and old.
